The Genesis of Herridge Photography
Where did it begin???
Well, in brief, my last name is Herridge and I'm a photographer, but I bet you're here for more than that.
Hello and welcome to my inaugural blog, The Genesis of Herridge Photography! How did I start? If you’ve read my biography on my website, you’ll know that my father kick-started my love affair with photography. He gave me my first camera, and we would go hiking and take photos. Back then, it was rare that I would have my hands on a camera, only occasionally whipping it out during hikes or outings with friends.
As I got older and started using my camera more, I began taking photos of random flowers. This hobby evolved into photographing birds in my backyard, eventually leading to taking my camera to the zoo. There was something very soothing and relaxing about capturing different parts of God's creation through my lens.
Fast forward a bit, and I got involved in model workshops. These were great because, being shy, I didn’t have to take charge. Eventually, I began working with models outside of the workshops, which helped me come out of my shell.
It was around this time that I opened my first Herridge Photography Instagram, prompted by a friend's simple words, "Why not?" Another fast-forward, and a couple I knew was getting married. I asked if I could do some pre-wedding photos for them. They said yes, and that’s when I discovered my niche. It was so wholesome, so real, and so authentic. I fell in love with this style of photography and decided to become a family photographer.
I didn’t study photography formally; all my experience has been in the field. I believe this hands-on approach can sometimes be a better way of learning. With maybe only one bad encounter, I can say it’s been a largely successful journey.
It took some time, but I found my niche and my style. I am a family photographer who focuses on capturing the authentic and wholesome moments of your lives.
